Week 3

TRAILER

This week we’ve decided to relax a bit. We’ve finished the layout using the characters and scenario we have made.

As you can see, we have our main characters chatting at a tavern about a legendary planet. While they talk about it you can see images corresponding to the legend they are talking about. The style will be different, in 2D, while the rest of the trailer is in 3D. This makes it more separated from the rest of the trailer, giving the legend a more unreal look. When they are finished narrating the legend a mysterious hooded person murmurs something. When one of the pirates tells them to repeat it, the hooded figure turns around, showing that they are a Myrk, the habitants from the legendary planet. The Myrk confirms what you can already guess “the legend is real”

TRAILER CREATION

To create a trailer and/or an animation, you have to follow some steps so you can be sure you’ll have a good result

First, you have to have the idea written, a script with what’s going to happen. After that you create a technical script and a storyboard (the order of which one you create first is interchangeable but both are important. And when you are creating the second one it is important to use the other as a reference). In both cases you’ll specify the shots you want to use for the scene and what will happen. The storyboard is a drawn version of the scene and the technical script is in text. In the latter we will too indicate the sounds that will sound in the scene.

After this we will do a layout, a “sketch” of the trailer. This way we will see the timings and how the shot will be seen. It will be done with the characters in T pose or with basic animation and without lightning or textures.

The next step is to actually animate the trailer. After that we add the lights correctly and texture it to give the final touch to the animation. Here we leave you with an example of each phase in the film Inside Out.

Lastly, there’s the post production phase, where we mount the trailer, fix the color and add different effects so it is fully realized.

And that's all for this week, stay tuned for the next post!!!
